"The Security Industry Authority is committed to developing an organisation in which fairness and equality of opportunity are central to our business and our working relationships. We aim to employ people from a diversity of backgrounds, with a wide range of skills in order to make us more adaptable, understanding and receptive to the needs of the communities we serve.
We are committed to equality of opportunity in all areas of employment, including recruitment, development and promotion. We aim to treat all staff fairly, with dignity and respect, regardless of any factor which is unrelated to their ability to perform in their current or future role.
Diversity is fundamental not only to our employment practices but also to the way in which we, as a regulating body, deliver our services. We aim to promote diversity within the security industry, to provide services equitably that meet the needs of all groups in the community and to treat all customers and stakeholders with dignity and respect.
Joint Equality Scheme
We published our Race Equality Scheme in 2006, our Disability Equality Scheme in 2007 and our Gender Equality Scheme in 2008. Our Joint Equality Scheme combines all of these into one document. The scheme is the foundation of our commitment to meet general and specific race, disability and gender equality duties. It sets out how we intend to comply with our statutory duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 and the Equality Act 2006 (which amends the Sex Discrimination Act 1975).
