Your SIA licence application

Thank you for submitting your application for a [SECTOR] licence. Your application number is [APPLICATION NUMBER].

There are things you will need to do before we can decide whether or not to grant you a licence. These are listed in the ‘What you need to do’ section below.

 

What you need to do

Visit a post office that offers the SIA application service by [DATE]. If you don't visit a post office before this date we will withdraw your application.

Not all post offices offer the SIA application service. To find a post office that does, use the Post Office Branch Finder at www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder. You must select 'SIA Licence Application' from the ‘Refine branch services’ drop-down. You can also call the post office on 0345 611 2970.

This is what you will need to do at the Post Office:

- Give them your application number ([APPLICATION NUMBER]).
- Pay the £220.00 application fee using a credit/debit card, or cash.
- Show them your UK Passport (current). This must be the original document, not a photocopy.
- Show them two group B documents from the list at www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/id-documents. Again, these need to be the original documents, not photocopies. Any address shown on these documents must match the address you gave us in your application.
- Have your photograph taken.

The post office will give you a receipt and confirmation that they have processed your application. Please keep these safe. We may ask you for them if there are any problems with your application.

We may contact you to ask for further documents or information, so make sure you regularly check ‘My Messages’ on your SIA online account. Don’t forget to check the ‘Information Requests’ section.

 

If you’ve made a mistake on your application

If you have entered any of your details incorrectly or want to make a change, you will need to cancel your application and start a new one. You can do this as long as you haven’t yet paid the application fee. Once you have paid the fee, the application can’t be cancelled.

If you realise you’ve made a mistake after you’ve paid the fee, you will need to contact us to ask us to correct the errors for you. Please include your application reference number and a detailed explanation of the correction required.

 

When will we reach our decision on your application?

The time taken to process your application will depend on the checks we need to carry out, the number of applications we have received and how long it takes to get information from other agencies involved (for example, the criminality disclosure bodies).
