SIA Chief Executive appointed

Elizabeth France CBE, Security Industry Authority Chair, today [20 February] announced the appointment of Alan Clamp as SIA Chief Executive.

Alan will take over from Bill Butler on 1 June. Alan is currently the Chief Executive of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), where he has been responsible for implementing the strategic plan of the HTA to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of regulation, and for ensuring that the HTA is governed effectively and provides good value for money.

Alan has considerable experience in the field of regulation and has successfully managed significant organisational change in national public sector organisations.

"Alan will carry forward the business plan for the year ahead and will develop work with government, the private security industry, and our other stakeholders to ensure the SIA continues to improve the service we provide to licence holders and security businesses. The challenge of delivering effective regulation in a changing environment is one I know he will relish."

  • The Security Industry Authority is the organisation responsible for regulating the private security industry in the United Kingdom, reporting to the Home Secretary under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA's main duties are: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities; and managing the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme.
  • Bill Butler announced his retirement from the SIA in September 2014. Bill will remain at the SIA until Alan Clamp is in post.
