Mental Health Check
The SIA is required by law to check that those applying for an SIA licence are 'fit and proper' to work in the industry.
One of the checks the SIA undertakes is to confirm with a medical professional that anyone who has been subject to compulsory detention or other compulsory measures in the last five years is fit to work in the industry.
To do this check, the SIA obtains a medical report from a treating psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist or GP and reviews the recommendations made by the professional.
If you answer yes, we will send you a letter or notification asking you to provide further information and your signed consent.
You can withdraw your consent
You can withdraw your consent for the SIA to receive a medical report from your treating medical professional at any time prior to the SIA requesting the medical report by submitting a request via your online account. However, your application cannot proceed until the SIA receives a medical report in relation to any relevant mental health information that you have declared.
